First teaser for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Harry Potter and the Deathly HallowsWith just under a year until the first installment of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows apparates on muggle screens everywhere, the first snippets of footage have been released by Warner Bros. It's early days, so don't expect too much, but this teaser is promising. It kicks off with some words from producer David Hyman and director David Yates, before launching into footage in which Harry starts his investigation into the Horcruxes in which Voldemort has hidden his splintered soul. Yates, who directed the last two Harry Potter movies, Order of the Phoenix and the disappointing Half-Blood Prince, is reunited with screenwriter Steve Kloves for this final throw of the dice. With the luxury of two movies to adapt J.K. Rowling's seventh and final novel in the Potter series, I'm optimistic that they'll deliver the goods and do justice to the novel. The last two movies in particular suffered from the well-nigh impossible task of compressing a wealth of material into single movies.

Kloves had this to say about the split of the novel into two parts: "I'm really excited about it because it should allow us to stretch a bit with the characters and give them the proper send-off. The story is highly emotional and those moments deserve time to breathe. And, personally, I feel we owe it to Jo — in order to preserve the integrity of the work — and the fans — for their loyalty all these years — to give them the best and most complete experience possible."

Part One of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is scheduled for release in November 2010, and Part Two in July 2011.
