New Iron Man 2 featurette

Iron Man 2A short featurette for the forthcoming and highly anticipated Iron Man 2 has just been made available by Paramount Pictures. The clip focusses on the Monaco scenes with Whiplash (Mickey Rourke) and Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jnr) and includes interviews with the two actors, Scarlett Johannson, who plays Natasha Romnoff, aka Black Widow, and director Jon Favreau.

At the conclusion of Iron Man, Tony Stark revealed to the world that he is the armoured superhero. The sequel picks up with Stark under pressure to share his technology with the military, but the billionaire genius and former military-industrialist is determined not to share his knowledge having seen what happens when his technology falls into the wrong hands. New alliances are forged and more terrible enemies, including Whiplash, make themselves known.

A joint production by Marvel Studios and Paramount Pictures, Iron Man 2 is the second in a planned trilogy. While I had some reservations about the first movie (ok, I had an axe to grind the day I wrote the review!), Iron Man was great fun and I'm looking forward to the sequel. The renaissance of Robert Downey Jnr as a Hollywood superstar has been nothing short of amazing, and all the more pleasing because of his incredible depth of talent. Iron Man 2 also stars Don Cheadle (who was outstanding in Traitor) as Lt. Colonel James Rhodes (replacing Terence Howard), Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Sam Rockwell as Justin Hammer, and Gwyneth Paltrow reprising her role as Pepper Potts, with cameos by director Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan and comic books legend Stan Lee as talk show host Larry King.

Iron Man 2 hits cinemas from 28 April (29 April in Australia, 30 April in the UK, 7 May in Canada and USA). And in case you were wondering, it's not in 3D... In the wake of the 3D phenomenon that was Avatar, Favreau heroically resisted the temptation, unlike some of his peers, to convert it post 2D production.

Iron Man 3 (2012) will be shot in 3D.
