Batman 3 The Dark Knight Rises : no 3D and no Riddler

batman3Director Christopher Nolan has announced that the next Batman film will be called The Dark Knight Rises, reports Cinematical. His third Batman movie will explore Batman's heroic roots after fleeing Gotham city as a wanted man at the end of The Dark Knight. He also revealed that the next villian would not be The Riddler (as had been rumoured) and that he and Warner Bros. had decided to stick with 2D. Interestingly, Warner Bros. is also avoiding 3D in the next Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1, in that case due to time constraints. Instead of 3D Nolan will concentrate on using both high-definition and IMAX cameras to deliver a powerful visual impact on the big screen.

"We'll use many of the same characters as we have all along, and we'll be introducing some new ones," Nolan said, regarding possible casting choices. So I guess we can expect to see Christian Bale return as Batman and Michael Caine as Alfred the butler at the very least.

David Goyer has been working with Nolan's brother, Jonathan, on a script, according to Variety. Nolan's last Batman movie, The Dark Knight, released in 2008, was co-written by the Nolans with Goyer helping develop the story.

Nolan is on a roll at the moment, The Dark Knight with Heath Ledger was a blockbuster hit of epic proportions and he followed that up with the excellent, mind twisting sleep movie Inception, so it will be intriguing to see what he can come up with next. Unlike many people I still prefer Nolan's first Batman movie, Batman Begins over the The Dark Knight.

The Dark Knight Rises is expected in theatres July 20, 2012.
