Buffy movie remake without creator Joss Whedon

Warner Brothers is going ahead with a Buffy movie remake without original Buffy creator Joss Whedon. As well as Buffy, Whedon was behind the excellent TV series Firefly (cancelled well before its time), and the recently cancelled Dollhouse, which only survived two seasons.
E! Online caught up with Whedon and discovered he's not too annoyed about the whole thing - he's at least retained a sense of humour about it anyway. If there is real anger about being left out of the project bubbling away beneath the surface, he's hiding it well.
Whedon said the Buffy remake news is "a sad, sad reflection on our times, when people must feed off the carcasses of beloved stories from their youths — just because they can't think of an original idea of their own, like I did with my Avengers idea that I made up myself".
He also announced that he would be remaking Batman, so Christopher Nolan should watch out.
"I always hoped that Buffy would live on even after my death. But, you know, AFTER. I don't love the idea of my creation in other hands, but I'm also well aware that many more hands than mine went into making that show what it was. And there is no legal grounds for doing anything other than sighing audibly. I can't wish people who are passionate about my little myth ill. I can, however, take this time to announce that I'm making a Batman movie. Because there's a franchise that truly needs updating. So look for The Dark Knight Rises Way Earlier Than That Other One And Also More Cheaply And In Toronto, rebooting into a theater near you."
Personally I'd much rather hear — hopefully in the not too distinct future — that Firefly is going back into production with a new TV series along with a follow up to the Firefly movie Serenity. Why can't Warner Brothers fund that instead?

After watching the pilot to Fox’s ambitious TV time travelling dinosaur fest called Terra Nova, I am praying that when I watch the next episode the entire cast gets eaten by dinosaurs (in fact, that hope is the only reason I’ll be able to sit through another one). No movie release in 2011 was more misunderstood and unfairly maligned as a result of misunderstanding than Zack Snyder’s Sucker Punch. Odds are you’ll disagree with that statement.
