Adventures of Tintin trailer: Spielberg and Jackson animate

tintinThe first trailer for The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn has hit the web and looks great. I remember reading all the Tintin comic books when I was a kid in the school library (along with the French Asterix comics) so it's a bit weird to see these same characters now transformed many many (many) years later on the big screen in 3D.

The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn is directed by Steven Spielberg, produced by Peter Jackson, and written by Steven Moffat, Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish. Moffat you may know is the head writer of the current series of Doctor Who and the recent UK TV Sherlock adaptation.

The trailer demonstrates that Steven Speilberg and Peter Jackson have managed to capture the look and feel of the original cartoons amazingly well.

The film tells the story of Tintin's first encounter with Captain Haddock and the discovery of a clue to the treasure of his ancestor Sir Francis Haddock. They set out to find the treasure with a prison escapee and the detective twins Thompson and Thopmson. Voices include Jamie Bell as Tintin, Andy Serkis as Captain Haddock, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost as Thompson and Thompson, Daniel Craig as the lead villain Red Rackham, and Toby Jones as Silk.

If you're skeptical about a very old 2D comic being transformed into a major 3D motion picture, the trailer below may change your mind.

The original series, The Adventures of Tintin (Les Aventures de Tintin), was created by the late Belgian artist Georges Rémi (1907–1983). He wrote using the pen name Hergé. Spielberg picked up the rights after his death.

The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn arrives 23 December, 2011.
