First full trailer for Marvel’s The Avengers lands a knockout punch

Seven months out from its highly anticipated theatrical release in May 2012, the first full trailer for Marvel’s The Avengers has arrived with AWESOME writ large in every scene!
Marvel's short but sweet synopsis runs something like this: when global security is threatened by an unexpected enemy (although Loki is looking like a prime candidate to share that honour), Nick Fury, head of the secretive international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D. (the men and women in black), finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. Spanning the globe, a daring recruitment effort begins.
Bringing together a remarkable (some might even say MARVELlous) ensemble cast with Robert Downey Jr (Iron Man), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Chris Evans (Captain America), along with Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Samuel Jackson (Nick Fury), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow) and Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), The Avengers is a veritable who’s who of Marvel heroes and villains. The trailer also gives us a glimpse of Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/The Hulk, who mysteriously replaced Edward Norton mid last year.
With creative powerhouse Joss Whedon (Firefly, Serenity, Buffy, Dollhouse, not to mention the post-credits scene at the end of Thor!) at the helm and sharing responsibility for the screenplay with Zak Pen (2008’s The Incredible Hulk, X-Men: The Last Stand), The Avengers looks set to be a cinematic high point for 2012.

After watching the pilot to Fox’s ambitious TV time travelling dinosaur fest called Terra Nova, I am praying that when I watch the next episode the entire cast gets eaten by dinosaurs (in fact, that hope is the only reason I’ll be able to sit through another one). No movie release in 2011 was more misunderstood and unfairly maligned as a result of misunderstanding than Zack Snyder’s Sucker Punch. Odds are you’ll disagree with that statement. Finally having had the opportunity to watch Nicholas Winding Refn’s Valhalla Rising, I now appreciate why it was received so well at film festivals and yet failed to get a wide theatrical release.
