The World's End

nuclear-explosionSimon Pegg and director Edgar Wright recently finished the second draft of The World's End, the final part of their Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy (also referred to as the Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy). Now Deadline reports that the studio, Working Titles, has set a September date for the start of filming and revealed some intriguing plot details at the same time. Of course, frequent companion Nick Frost is back in front of the cameras with Simon Pegg for the final segment. It would have been half the film without him.

Pegg, Wright and Frost's excellent black comedy zombie film Shaun of the Dead and police satire (mystery/comedy?) Hot Fuzz were parts 1 and 2 of the trilogy, so they have a lot to live up to. Here's the pitch for The World's End - it's a good one:

"20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hell bent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by mate Gary King, a 40-year old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their home town and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub, The World's End. As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realise the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind's. Reaching The World's End is the least of their worries."

I was a bit disappointed with their last film, the ET encounter story Paul, but I have high hopes for The World's End (as you do). Looking forward to sharing the end of humanity with two of the funniest actors on the planet. If you've got to go, you may as well go out laughing.
