Billy Connolly in X-files movie trailer

Billy Connolly plays a priest in the second X-file movie, X-files: I want to believeA trailer for the second X-files movie, X-files: I want to believe, has been released.

The first thing you'll notice is that Billy Connolly appears to have a major role in the new movie. While X-files creator Chris Carter hasn't released many plot details, we do know that Connolly plays a priest at the centre of a supernatural occurrence. He helps FBI Special Agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) in their investigations.

At first glance you may also believe that Daniel Craig of James Bond fame has joined the cast, but unfortunately its Callum Keith Rennie. He does look like him though. Perhaps that was the idea?

It will be great to see Connolly in another major movie role. He’s underrated as a serious actor, probably because he's such a great comedian. The trailer shows Connolly's character leading a team of FBI agents through the snow. At one point he cries out: "I know she's out there!".

As we previously reported, there’s no sign of the alien elements that were so dominant in the first X-files movie, this one will be strictly Earth bound. According to Chris Carter the movie will focus on Mulder's internal struggle with his faith.

Comments by David Duchovny suggest that there may be a dash of horror in the new movie too.

"It's very dark and frightening," Duchovny told the The Daily Mail. "We forgot, as we grew older and the show became so big, that it got so popular because it was that scary.

"This movie goes back to the original impetus of The X-Files, which is to scare the pants off people."

You can view the X-files: I want to believe trailer here on the IGN website (they seem to have obtained an exclusive). If you keep watching after the trailer ends there are additional production clips with the cast and crew.

X-files: I Want to Believe comes a decade after the first movie and heads into a cinema near you July 25.
