Cruise and J. J. Abrams in Mission: Impossible IV

cruise2Mission: Impossible III was pretty average I thought, but Tom Cruise and J.J. Abrams have signed on to co-produce Mission: Impossible IV for Paramount.

The Hollywood Reporter reveals that the latest instalment in the high tech spy thriller series, which starred Tom Cruise as master spy Ethan Hunt, will be released in 2011. Mission: Impossible III was released in 2006. While critically panned by some, the third movie's box office appeal was undeniable.

It's unclear whether Tom Cruise will star this time round or just produce. Bad or not, like the upcoming Indiana Jones V, there appears to be a lot of money to be made by endlessly regurgitating the same material. All you need to do is add more special effects and bigger budgets. Screenwriters and a story are optional.
