While J.J. Abrams' Star Trek reinvention wasn't the best science fiction movie of 2009 (that would have to go to the excellent District 9) it was pretty close, so it's good to hear that a second Star Trek film has been given a date. Paramount has confirmed that Star Trek 2 will make an appearance on June 29, 2012. Coming Soon reports that both Abrams and his writing team, Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, are involved. Apparently they have the plot all mapped out. Let's hope this one has less holes than the first.
No word on whether William Shatner will make an appearance as Captain Kirk or if Leonard Nimoy is back as Mr Spock. It's possible that Abrams could just take a producer role too. I guess we'll have to wait and see. I was hoping there would be more talk regarding a TV series, but sadly on that subject there is no news.
