New Predators movie like Cameron’s Aliens

Producer Robert Rodriguez has previewed the first footage from a new Predators movie starring Adrien Brody and Laurence Fishburne at the South by Southwest Film Festival and Conference in Austin, Texas. There’s no Arnold Schwarzenegger, star of the first Predator film, but the excellent new acting additions of Brody and Fishbourne may help Predators rise above the B-Grade level of its sequel and tie–in predecessors, which include Predator 2 (1990) and the two Alien crossover films Alien vs. Predator (2004) and Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem (2007).
According to the Latino Review, Predators follows a mercenary named Royce (Brody), abducted by alien creatures known as the Predators, who is released on an alien world which acts as a game reserve. Another seven humans are also abducted and together they are hunted by a group of predators including a new breed nicknamed the "Black Super Predator". Laurence Fishburne plays Noland, an American solider who was released on the planet years before but has managed to survive.
The L.A.Times also reveals that one of the humans may be a serial killer.
"They are all predators in their own right and they are at each other's throats," director Nimród Antal explains about the hunted. "We're expanding the mythology but we're also making a stand-alone film. And, I hope this doesn't sound arrogant, but when it comes to imagery that not one of the previous can come close to. I'm very proud of the way the film looks."
Producer Rodriguez considers the new Predators film to be a direct sequel to the 1987 Schwarzenegger film Predator and named the film Predators to mimic the way the second film in the Alien franchise directed by James Cameron was called Aliens. The title Predators is intended to have a double meaning, referring to the film's alien creatures, as well as the group of humans fighting them.
You can watch the Predators preview below. The full Predators trailer will be online 18 March.
It appears that Fox is attempting to relaunch the Predator franchise, just as Abrams did with Star Trek. I’m surprised they haven’t announced that it’s going to be in 3D yet (as it appears to be compulsory lately), but I guess that will be next week!
