Cameron writing an Avatar novel before sequel

avatar_cameronIt seems that before James Cameron starts writing the screenplay to a sequel to his massive 3D hit Avatar, he'll be writing an Avatar novel. Talking to MTV, Cameron revealed that he wanted to put "more meat on the bones" of his Avatar universe.

"Really, what I'm working on right now primarily is the novel," Cameron said. "Because I never had a chance to get the novel done while we were making the movie, and I always intended to. I didn't want to do a cheesy novelisation, where some hack comes in and kind of makes s--t up. I wanted to do something that was a legitimate novel that was inside the characters' heads and didn't have the wrong cultural stuff, the wrong language stuff, all that."

He also revealed to MTV that there are likely to be two Avatar sequels filmed back to back.

Cameron has also told MarketSaw that his special edition version of Avatar, which is due back in cinemas 26 August, will include nine, not eight minutes of extra footage:

"It's actually nine [extra minutes]! I added some since that press release. It's all CG. None of it is kinda boring shots of people sitting around in offices at the base, drinking coffee. It's all out in the rainforest; some of it is at night. There is a big hunt sequence that's got a lot of flying, a lot of banshee stuff, riding dire horses, very high-energy, high-impact action. There's a very powerful emotional scene towards the end that has been added back."
