Source Code trailer

sourceThe first trailer from Duncan Jones' new science fiction thriller, Source Code, his second feature after Moon, has arrived and it's looking promising. Source Code is about an ex-soldier (played by Jake Gyllenhaal) who volunteers for an experimental military program that sends his consciousness into the last eight minutes of a man's life in order to investigate a terrorist attack on a Chicago train. If the trailer is anything to go by, Gyllenhaal's character does this repeatedly, attempting to find those responsible by jumping into another man's mind just before the blast occurs. Is this time travel? Can he alter history? Can he save peoples lives? What makes it all happen?

Written by Billy Ray (Volcano, Shattered Glass) and Ben Ripley (Species: The Awakening), Source Code also stars Vira Farmiga, Michelle Monaghan and Jeffrey Wright.

Even though Jones hasn't written the screenplay for Source Code, as he did with Moon, it will be interesting to see whether he can match his previous low budget success. The only thing that worries me about this first trailer is that it seems to give away a large part of the plot. Perhaps they need to point out the basics at the outset to allow people to follow the rest of the movie?

If you didn't know about and haven't watched Moon, Duncan Jones' excellent directorial debut, pick it up on DVD. You won't be disappointed. It's a rare, intelligent science fiction gem. Sam Rockwell plays Sam Bell, caretaker of the Sarang moon base owned by the Lunar Corporation. His contract is about to expire, and he begins to hear and see strange things...

If you're like me and have watched Moon a couple of times already, you'll have to wait for the Source Code premier for more from Jones. Source Code is due out 15 April 2011 in the US. Watch the Source Code trailer on YouTube below or in high resolution on Apple's website.

Duncan Jones is also working on a sequel to Moon called Mute Witness.
