Robots fight in Hugh Jackman's Real Steel

Disney and DreamWorks have released the first trailer for Real Steel, the robot fighting science fiction movie starring Hugh Jackman and lots of impressive shiny robots.
Set in the not too distant future, Real Steel tells the story of a robot called Atom that Jackman finds in a junkyard (that's where you pick up used robots apparently). He attempts to train Atom to become the champion of the World Robot Boxing League. It all sounds a bit silly really, but the sight of lots of Transformer type metal guys belting each other in the ring is sure to be an entertaining sight - and who knows, perhaps it will even come with a script?
FirstShowing recently published quotes from Jackman and the film's director Shawn Levy."The moment of walking in and seeing these robots, my jaw was on the floor," Jackman said. "It was filmed mostly up in Michigan earlier this year. They are using motion capture for scenes where robots are actually fighting (with Sugar Ray Leonard as their boxing adviser)."
"There are some things only visual effects can pull off," Levy explained. "But when you give an actor a real thing, in this case a real 8-foot-tall machine, to interact with and do dialogue opposite, you get a more grounded reality to the performance."
Real Steel is not out until November 18, 2011. In the meantime, check out the first trailer on YouTube below.

Finally having had the opportunity to watch Nicholas Winding Refn’s Valhalla Rising, I now appreciate why it was received so well at film festivals and yet failed to get a wide theatrical release. After watching the pilot to Fox’s ambitious TV time travelling dinosaur fest called Terra Nova, I am praying that when I watch the next episode the entire cast gets eaten by dinosaurs (in fact, that hope is the only reason I’ll be able to sit through another one).
