Trailer for Simon Pegg's UFO comedy Paul

The trailer for Simon Pegg's alien comedy Paul has hit the web. Starring the comedy writing duo Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, most famous for the ground breaking Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, this is a film I was looking forward too. However, although it's only a trailer and it's obviously early days, I wasn't that overwhelmed to be perfectly honest. I'm sure I'll end up going to see it based on their past writing/acting work, but the humour in the trailer seems to be aiming for the lowest common denominator. Not as funny as I thought it would be!
Paul tells the story of an alien named Paul (voiced by Seth Rogen) who has been hanging out at a top-secret military base for the past 60 years. When he decides to escape the compound and hops on a vehicle out of town — a rented RV containing Earthlings Graeme Willy (Pegg) and Clive Collings (Frost) — the road trip gets into full swing. Chased by federal agents and a fanatical father of a young woman, Graeme and Clive hatch a fumbling escape plan to return Paul to his mother ship.

Finally having had the opportunity to watch Nicholas Winding Refn’s Valhalla Rising, I now appreciate why it was received so well at film festivals and yet failed to get a wide theatrical release. It’s hard going. Almost any time we write anything about Neil Gaiman, you can be sure that someone will feel the need to post a comment “outing” the man as a Scientologist. After watching the pilot to Fox’s ambitious TV time travelling dinosaur fest called Terra Nova, I am praying that when I watch the next episode the entire cast gets eaten by dinosaurs (in fact, that hope is the only reason I’ll be able to sit through another one). The entire cast’s gruesome deaths at the hands of a frenzied T-Rex or a velociraptor having a bad day can’t come soon enough.... Read more
