Paul Bettany as a legendary post-apocalyptic religious ninja in Priest

PriestPriest stars Paul Bettany as a legendary, post-apocalyptic ninja-warrior priest who likes nothing better than to kill monster vampires. If the trailer below is anything to go by, this one is going to be great.

After the last Vampire War (remember the last one?) Paul Bettany "Priest" lives in obscurity among other downtrodden human inhabitants in walled dystopian cities ruled by the Church. When his niece is abducted by a murderous vampires, Priest breaks his sacred vows to venture out on an quest to find her.

Sounds and looks a bit like Legion, the recent post-apocalyptic film that also starred Bettany, but the trailer suggests it will be far superior (and has a much larger budget). Some of the futuristic landcapes in the trailer are particularly impressive. The huge statues remind me of the decaying king statues on the sides of the riverbank in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings films. Priest also stars Karl Urban as Black Hat and Christopher Plummer as Monsignor Orelas and will be in 3D.

Priest is directed by Scott Stewart, with a screenplay by Cory Goodman (based on a comic book by Min-Woo Hyung). We should see it hit theatres May 13, 2011. Check out the trailer and let us know what you think.
