Third trailer for Battle: Los Angeles

BattleLosAngeles2The third trailer for Battle: Los Angeles is even more impressive than the first two (and I really liked the first two). With a dark military feel, new footage reveals spectacular special effects along with some "above average" science fiction dialogue. There's no obvious clangers in what is heard or shown, but it's only a trailer, and as usual almost impossible to work out if the story will amount to anything (or "nothing" as in the case of the recent alien invasion film Skyline). Like the first full length trailer, the third features music from the haunting experimental Icelandic musician, Jóhann Jóhannsson. The track is called The Sun's Gone Dim And The Sky's Turned Black.

Battle: Los Angeles is directed by Jonathan Liebesman and stars Michelle Rodriguez (Avatar and Lost), Aaron Eckhart (The Dark Knight), and Bridget Moynahan (I, Robot).

Will Battle: Los Angeles be another Independance Day, with great special effects, reasonable characters but a plot full of holes? Or are we looking at another disaster like Skyline, with awful characters and no plot: lots of movement and noise signifying nothing? I'm hoping for an excellent science fiction epic with superb characters, stunning effects and a profound and moving plot, but the odds are stacked against me (and everyone else too). We'll all find out when Battle: Los Angeles gets its release in theaters March 11, 2011.
