Captain America: The First Avenger trailer

captain_americaThere are so many comic book inspired movies in production that it's becoming quite difficult to keep up. Captain America: The First Avenger is the latest from Marvel comics and a new trailer reveals that it's not as tacky as the title suggests (although it is a bit tacky obviously, with a name like Captain America: The First Avenger it's unavoidable).

Chris Evans, the actor who stars as Captain America, is no stranger to comic book movies. Evans played Johnny Storm in the comic book adaptation Fantastic Four released in 2005.

"The First Avenger" part of the film's title refers to the upcoming Avengers movie. No doubt Captain America will make an appearance as one of the characters in Avengers too.

The new trailer shows Steve Rogers (Captain America) being transformed from a scrawny loose limbed soldier into a super hero with extraordinary powers courtesy of some type of experimental machine. In the original Marvel comic books, Rogers was given a "Super Soldier Serum".

The trailer also shows Captain America using his indestructible shield, which according to the comic books, was created by a lab accident that cannot be duplicated. The alloy is stronger than the "adamantium" used in Wolverine's claws.

Captain America: The First Avenger hits theatres July 22 2011. Watch the trailer on YouTube below.
