Emmerich's Foundation script approved

Roland_Emmerich_foundationDirector Roland Emmerich recently discussed the Foundation film project with Empire Magazine, his epic adaptation of Isaac Asimov's Foundation series that was announced so long ago that I can't even remember the year.

Thankfully the project hasn't been cancelled yet and should still happen. However, they're trying to work out a budget, with a decision to be reached in March. It's possible I guess that in March they could very well decide not to go ahead with it at all, but I'm trying to remain positive.

"We've hired a production designer and it's mainly now to find out what the movie will cost," said Emmerich. "It'll take us until the end of March, then we'll decide. The studio's happy with the script, but now's the time that the numbers count. I want to make a movie that's very different from other science-fiction movies and I don't want to have the burden of too big a budget."

I really hope this one makes it across the line. I'm a massive fan of Isaac Asimov's work, and while I'm not completely convinced about the suitability of Roland Emmerich as director, this is the first time any of Isaac Asimov's novels has had the opportunity to be given the big budget, high profile Hollywood treatment. If it does go ahead, I'll be intrigued to see the results. They're happy with the script, so that's a good start.

I guess though we'll have to wait and see if it escapes the Hollywood development process. We'll let you know what happens in March.
