Guy Pearce confirmed for Ridley Scott’s Prometheus

Australian actor Guy Pearce has joined Ridley Scott’s Alien inspired science fiction epic Prometheus. There’s no word yet on what his role will be (or anyone else's role for that matter). Prometheus originally started out as an Alien prequel, but has since morphed into an independent science fiction tale in its own right. The plot is being kept strictly under wraps, but from previous reports the film takes place in the Alien universe, but not as a direct linked prequel or sequel to Scott’s original 1979 film (or the three Alien sequels that came after it).
Earlier Scott stated that the story is set in 2085, approximately three decades prior to the events of the first Alien film before the birth of Ellen Ripley. He also said the film would explore the nature and origin of the unknown extraterrestrial race who made a brief appearance in the first film: the derelict spaceship's pilot - referred to as the “Space Jockey”. These details were revealed when the film was still a prequel, so anything could have changed by now.
Prometheus recently finished filming scenes in Toronto, and has since moved to sound stages in London.
Pearce joins Noomi Rapace (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo), Michael Fassbender (the upcoming X-Men: First Class), Charlize Theron (Snow White and the Huntsman), Idris Elba (Thor), Sean Harris, Kate Dickie, Rafe Spall and Logan Marshall-Green.
I’m a big fan of Guy Pearce, especially his role in the mind twisting movie Memento. I last saw him in a small role in the Oscar winning The King’s Speech. Really though, I don’t need any extra encouragement to be enthusiastic about Scott’s Prometheus. Given Scott’s track record, I would have purchased a ticket based on the genre and director alone. I expect we’ll hear a lot more about Prometheus soon. Scott’s new epic - using Alien DNA - will arrive in theatres 8 June, 2012.

No movie release in 2011 was more misunderstood and unfairly maligned as a result of misunderstanding than Zack Snyder’s Sucker Punch. Odds are you’ll disagree with that statement. Finally having had the opportunity to watch Nicholas Winding Refn’s Valhalla Rising, I now appreciate why it was received so well at film festivals and yet failed to get a wide theatrical release. After watching the pilot to Fox’s ambitious TV time travelling dinosaur fest called Terra Nova, I am praying that when I watch the next episode the entire cast gets eaten by dinosaurs (in fact, that hope is the only reason I’ll be able to sit through another one).
