New footage for Blade Runner anniversary DVD

SCI FI Wire reports that Ridley Scott has reshot parts of Blade Runner for the soon to be released 25th anniversary "final cut" DVD. New footage includes a reworking of replicant Zhora’s death scene, a slow motion shot where she crashes through plate glass windows. Apparently a stunt double was clearly visible the first time round. I can’t remember seeing a stunt double myself, but I guess they wouldn’t have bothered making the changes otherwise.

The anniversary release will also feature alterations to the final scene with Roy Batty, where a dove is released into a bright blue sky supposedly at night. The scene will now show the dove flying into a night sky, and removes the shot of a building in the background.

Considering how long the anniversary edition has taken to get here, even with all the legal hold ups, I was expecting something more substantial. Maybe it’s all in the DVD extras?

A variety of editions of Blade Runner: The Final Cut will finally be released 18 December 2007.
