Daniel Craig's third Bond film titled Skyfall

The third James Bond film starring Daniel Craig as 007 (the 23rd in this long running British spy series) is to be called Skyfall and is due 9 November 2012. Sam Mendes, director of the award winning American Beauty, will direct from a screenplay by John Logan, Neal Purvis and Robert Wade.

According to FirstShowing, Skyfall will be a stand-alone story that has "emotional resonance". There is no connection with the first two Daniel Craig Bond films, Casino Royal and The Quantum of Solace. The Quantum of Solace story started right where Casino Royal ended.

Shooting has already started in the UK at Pinewood Studios and other locations will include Scotland, Istanbul and Shanghai.

Apart from Daniel Craig as James Bond, the cast includes Judi Dench as M, French actress Bérénice Marlohe as Sabrina, Naomie Harris, Javier Bardem (as the new villain), Ben Whishaw, Albert Finney and Ralph Fiennes (Harry Potter's Lord Voldemort).

According to BleedingCool, Skyfall's two-line synopsis is:

"In Skyfall, Bond's loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost."

At the press announcement Sam Mendes said "the action needs to be balanced with the drama" and promised that there would be a "lot of surprises'.

Glad to hear Bond will be back soon. The financial issues that have plagued MGM created significant delays and I was beginning to think it would be another decade before the 23rd Bond film found its way into theatres.
