Guy Pearce's Lockout a prison break in outer space

lockoutsmallI know many of you may have disliked the 2002 remake of The Time Machine Guy Pearce starred in with Jeremy Irons, but I rather liked his performance and the film. Either way, it's good to hear that he's venturing into science fiction territory once more with a French produced prison break science fiction tale called Lockout.

Pearce is a man wrongly convicted of a conspiracy to commit espionage against the US Government. To earn his freedom, he must rescue the president's daughter (Maggie Grace) from an outer space prison taken over by violent inmates.

Directed by French cinematographers James Mather and Stephen St. Leger, Lockout (also known as MS One: Maximum Security outside the US), is based on a short film called Prey Alone. The screenplay was co-written by Mather and St. Leger and filmmaker Luc Besson. Besson is also executive producer.

Watch the trailers below and let us know what you think. Could be entertaining and has a kind of Fifth Element feel to it with a touch of Sean Connery's Outland and an almost identical premise to Escape from New York.

You can find the official Lockout website here and Lockout's official Facebook page here.

Lockout will be released internationally 20 April 2012.
