Indie Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Launch Site to Worlds Apart

A new kind of website for readers of science fiction, fantasy, and paranormal fiction has launched. Not a bookstore or a book blog, Worlds Apart, features original books by a group of indie writers and artists. Among them are Tessa Dick, Miguel Conner, and David Harrington. Following the trend of crossing genres and subgenres, Worlds Apart includes books such as Miguel Conner's Stargazer, a vampire space saga, and Tessa Dick's Murder Lies about a psychic detective investigating a blood cult.

Ms. Dick's Remembering Firebright, a memoir of her husband's, the venerable Philip K. Dick's, mystical visonary experience is featured, as is Mr. Harrington's Inclinations, a poetically prosaic allegory also inspired by mysticism.

Luc Valentine, creator of  Worlds Apart, says, "Our writers are not only good prose artists, their works reach into realms where reality, as we know it, is an 'unknown unknown'--a higher reality that we have no idea exists in our everyday lives--unless we experience it through the imagination of the soul."

Worlds Apart displays in a gallery format with the title, author, and a brief note on each book. Clicking the link to that book on the Titles Gallery brings up the book with descriptions, quotes, review excerpts, and links to order online in either print or eBook format. "Worlds Apart doesn't sell books, we display them," says Mr. Valentine. "The writers create their own product. We provide a site for them to show their title and post their links, but very much to connect our special readers to them and their art."

Six titles are up at launch with the goal to add two or three titles every season. "Some amazing art, a graphic novel, is being created now. Mr. Conner is planning a sequel to Stargazer later this year." Mr. Valentine is at work on a virtual/alternate reality novel, "not what happens when virtual reality is here, but what happens when virtual reality first starts up," he says, which is penned for an autumn release.

The site plans to add a blog later this spring for reader discussion.
