Terra Nova, the new science fiction TV series from Brannon Braga (Battlestar Galactica, FlashForward) and Steven Spielberg, will be filmed in South-east Queensland, according to Australia's ABC network.
Executive vice-president of production Jim Sharp said Queensland is the best location to portray all possible worlds in the sci-fi series.
"Queensland had the right look, climate and terrain, a vibrant production community and attractive economic incentives," he said. "We are very excited to be shooting our first production there."
Shooting for Terra Nova is expected to begin in November and there will initially be 13 one-hour television episodes.
Terra Nova takes place 100 years in the future and focuses on a family that travels back to the prehistoric era. Jason O'Mara (star of the US version of Life on Mars) will play Jim Shannon, whose family is part of a group of settlers who travel back in time. In other Terra Nova news, The Hollywood Insider has reported that Terra Nova's pilot episode will be broadcast in the US in May 2011, but the series won't officially begin until September 2011. They believe the delay between the pilot and the actual series start date will help generate a "buzz" for the show before the series gets officially underway.
