Battlestar's Caprica cancelled after first season

Syfy has canceled Battlestar Galactica's spin off show, Caprica, after just one season. According to Variety, five remaining episodes of the first season will air in the first quarter of 2011.
"We appreciate all the support that fans have shown for Caprica and are very proud of the producers, cast, writers and the rest of the amazing team that has been committed to this fine series," said Mark Stern, exec VP of original programming for Syfy. "Unfortunately, despite its obvious quality, Caprica has not been able to build the audience necessary to justify a second season."
While not as polished and action packed as Battlestar Galactica, exploring the origins of the Cylon religion before the birth of the Cylons and the rivalries between the two families, the Adamas and the Graystones, made Caprica an entertaining mix. The virtual reality settings and the consciousness transfer from Daniel Graystone's daughter Zoe to an early model Cylon gave the show plenty of new territory to explore. However, it was slow going at times, perhaps with too much soap, so I can see why SyFy pulled the plug. It's unfortunate they couldn't have given it one more season to allow it to develop further, but I guess profit is a strong motivating force (too strong in most cases).
Syfy has recently green-lit another Battlestar Galactica spin off, Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome, so I guess they will be focusing their efforts on this new show instead - if the pilot proves successful of course. If not, there's still an upcoming Battlestar Galactica movie from Universal on the horizon.

After watching the pilot to Fox’s ambitious TV time travelling dinosaur fest called Terra Nova, I am praying that when I watch the next episode the entire cast gets eaten by dinosaurs (in fact, that hope is the only reason I’ll be able to sit through another one). No movie release in 2011 was more misunderstood and unfairly maligned as a result of misunderstanding than Zack Snyder’s Sucker Punch. Odds are you’ll disagree with that statement. Finally having had the opportunity to watch Nicholas Winding Refn’s Valhalla Rising, I now appreciate why it was received so well at film festivals and yet failed to get a wide theatrical release.
