Kiefer Sutherland investigates psychic powers in Touch

touchKiefer Sutherland, best known for the hit TV show 24 - along with excellent feature film roles like Flatliners and Dark City - returns to science fiction territory once more with a new psychic powers TV show called Touch. From the creator/writer of Heroes, Tim Kring, Touch is about an autistic boy who can predict the future. His father, Martin Bohm (Kiefer Sutherland) acts on clues he deciphers from his sons behaviour to save lives and alter events for the good of all. Since Bohm’s son has never spoken, this is no easy task. Bohm is mentored by Professor Arthur Dewitt (Danny Glover) who believes there is more to Jake than meets the eye.

Everything is connected it appears, in more ways than we can possibly imagine, and Bohm’s son Jake can reveal these connections to everyone.

This is one of those shows that could go either way. If handled badly with a disabled young boy involved, it could easily slide into sentimentality. If handled with a deft touch, however (pardon the pun), it could be very, very good. Heroes was anything but subtle though, especially in its later seasons, so the odds are stacked against. Take a look at the Touch trailer on YouTube below and let us know if you think it will make it past its first season.

I’m a fan of Kiefer but given the string of bad TV shows lately (Terra Nova, Falling Skies, etc.) I’ll become more enthusiastic about Touch only after I read some good reviews or I’m impressed after watching it myself.

Touch will be broadcast in the US March 2012.
